Anyone else getting a "Couldn't get CRC map" in some maps?

Post by cloudynubilum »

Hey.
Before I talk about this, let me just clarify 2 things:

1. I'm not saying that the entire server is completely unplayable, you could still play on most, if not, almost all of the maps here as you wish (which is very nice). This is only to shed light that some maps doesn't really work for me, or maybe for a group of people, or everyone. I'm thinking if anyone else has this issue.

2. Although I played the Half-Life franchise for well over a year now (and completely no-lifed it), I only just got into Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, and consequently Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source because of the fact that in the 20th Anniversary Update for Half-Life 2, (Yes, I did not own Steam copies of the Half-Life games) Valve made it free for a limited time and bundles all the Half-Life 2 games in it, including HL2DM and HLDMS. (although HLDMS has HL1 weapons and textures) That's how I got those games (the minute they turned free, I remember that day very well) despite having a limited (F2P) account at the time, and having only around ~35.2 hours on the game as of now, I do not know much about the errors and bugs (if any) in this game. So hopefully I could find a solution because all the other ones I've tried didn't really work (more on that later)

Now with all that out of the way, let's begin.

I tried hopping on ZG as usual, there wasn't any people in the server at the time so I was only here for looking at some maps, but, when I tried connecting to the server, this happens:

At first, I figured that the setting where it allows custom files to be downloaded was changed, but it wasn't. I tried turning the game off and on again and reconnecting, it didn't work, I tried connecting to it again and it didn't work. I went online and found a solution to just delete the map in the game files and let it download again, I did as instructed and the same error popped up. I figured that the map will change after a while and so I waited for a while and eventually I got on the server. So it was only a sort of map error as I assumed. Although that whole ordeal was weird I got on the server and explored some maps and had some fun. Then fast forward to now and the same error happens but with a different map:

I know I could have just waited it out and then hopped back on, but I figured that maybe it wasn't MY end and other people might have experienced this too, and it's annoying waiting for a map to change so I could play. (although it's worth the wait to play on the server TBH) But maybe it is also probably my end because I'm not very experienced with HL2DM.

This forum post was made just for me to either find a solution to this problem, if I was just an idiot or if there really was a problem that wasn't on my end, or at the very least let someone know about it.

Thank you for taking your time to read as I ramble on about this.
Hopefully this small little bug could be fixed soon.
And again, another thank you.
