Hi everyone,

After discussing with a couple of admins, and because of the instant RQ's
For the moment, if a player is new on the server (no ranks yet) or has under 10 000 points, that is less than 1 hour gameplay approximatively...
They will always spawn with 100 armor.
As soon as the player reaches 10 000 points, that will be cancelled.

We are doing this in an attempt to encourage the new players to stay in.

As always I encourage admins to leave aside their hunger for points for a moment when they are alone with new players - and instead welcome them and teach them a few things, also play slow for a bit.
Yesterday we have lost 21 players (Rage quit) in the daytime, that excludes evening play! Because a stronger was making sensei and playing at 100% capacity on the newcomes.

Not ideal I think

We will see how it goes with 100 armor, I will be monitoring the daily RQ's in the days to come

good idea! you can add extra ammo also, what do you think?

A similar system is used in some multiplayer shooters, only there it is realized that newbies do a little more damage. But what if the player is strong?

I think we could do some maths, for example, the player needs to kill 50 players to get rank, if it kill with 0 death, go to 100° position or if 100 deaths, go to 300° position, we could also make that new player can get/lose points ir even take/be taken points from other players

well they will reach the level VERY quickly if they are good. Remember, newer players get points more easily and quickly.
If you want more details, what you can do is an average...
See on the ranks, who made 1 hours, so sort by points, and see when you start seeing 1 hour.... your average player makes 10 000 points in 1 hour or so.
Meaning that a v good player will take i would say 20 minutes. At the most. We can probably live with it I think ?

Problem is it could seem strange to some, for instance Bboby contacted me today saying that he noticed it was more difficult to kill new players, I guess he did not see the post.
I will ask him his opinion.

I noticed this too yesterday, but it was not a problem for me. There were a lot of newbies and they played at least 2 map. The feature working, as I wrote earlier, this is a widespread practice. Of course, would like it to work invisibly for player.

ADMINS! Please when you start seeing this ACT before it is too late!
Try and change the mode of the game, chat to the guy, and if you want to play at 200% of your capacity, at least change the map to a larger one so that the guy can run around without being massacred immediately resulting to an inevitable RQ
I want to stress that these people will NOT COME BACK!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS are what count the most. By ignoring this situation we are losing 20 new player and potential friends DAILY. Shooting ourselves in the foot and handing free players to fastpath.fr and other competitors!!!

I am not saying you have to slow down EVERYTIME there is a new player. I understand that when a server is busy that will also not be possible, BUT when there is a situation like above, with 2 admins and a new player slow down a moment, make a joke, show a command, place a larger map, and so on. Just a kind introduction of 10 minutes? do you know what I mean?

Maybe someone can friend the guy and try bring him back hey

The map you have taken a screenshot from is the map before he quit so this player stayed for several maps before he left, your screenshots are from different map sessions.

If you check his sessions he played several maps and made several kills as below data - https://hl2dm-consortium.tsgk.com/index ... game=hl2mp

Results Summary
Kills: 11
Deaths: 36
Kills per Death: 0.31
Suicides: 2

For a new player to kill 11x and die 36x over 3 maps I would say that was very good.

To me it seemed that the RQ reason was the score and that he was being massacred. We have all been there, 18 to 1 isn't nice especially for a player who is new, (under 5k points)
You must remember from the previous discussions that new players who have under 5k points spawn with 100 armor. Perhaps that made you think that he was strong?

If you think the (deaths vs kills) wasn't the reason his RQ'ing what do you think it might have been?

The reason I ask is: I am currently trying analyze the reason of all these RQ's and subsequently trying to prevent them by code and by encouraging a change in behaviour.
I believe that if we all do our part we can somewhat manage to reduce that RQ number if only a little bit.

Abath suggested that we make the kill limit lower if a player has less than 5k and less than 2 kills after 5 minutes for instance...
How about that idea?

Well I understand you would like more players to join and have FUN , another example yesterday a new player joined and he was very strong but new to ZG and was beating me and Abarth so we have a few problems here.

1) New player to HL2DM
2) Experienced player but new to ZG

Its very difficult checking this data pragmatically right to determine what additional goodies or aids you give a new player.

I personally think it has to be a judgement and to help that player learn , but then you have the situation where someone else joins and just shoots away.

The message does help but I think we all need to understand what we do here when a weaker player joins the server , we cant just stand still and not play or shoot right ?

I think with any game really or any server you join as a new player you are not going to do very well until you learn the game.

I don't have the smoking gun answer here but I guess you just need to try out different options until something fits all.
